In 1984, a disasterous famine was raging in Ethiopia. Bob Geldof and Midge Ure organized Irish and British musicians and the result was the single, “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” The group was called Band Aid. Their success and great heart led to the song becoming a great hit and achieving its goal.
The following year, “We Are the World” was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie for the album of the same name. Sales surpassed 20,000 copies.
Again, musicians came together for the Haiti disaster.
SOUTH AFRICAN WOMEN, CHILDREN AND SENIORS ARE CRYING OUT FOR HELP-64,000 VOICES OF THE MOST VULNERABLE IN SOCIETY.
IT IS A HUNGER SITUATION, A HUNGER FOR JUSTICE, A HUNGER FOR FREEDOM FROM VIOLENCE, A HUNGER FOR PEACE.
There are Over 64,000 annual rapes of women/children/and seniors occurs in South Africa. This country is the number one rape country. Usually rape occurs as a punishment and humiliation of a conquering army and is considered one of the “spoils of war.” There is NO WAR in South Africa. This is men raping their fellow country women/children/and seniors. The law, so far, has been totally ineffective. President Zuma was “outraged” at the rape of a seventeen year old girl, who had her stomach slit open and was left to die by two male rapists. However, Zuma was on trial for rape, but was aquitted!
The law is ineffective, but I believe a strong voice of musicians…an album…FOR THE WOMEN OF SOUTH AFRICA is needed. We need film stars, politicians, religious figures, sports figures to speak out NOW.
If you know someone in the music industry please refer them to this site.
