TELL YOUR MIND TO ‘SHUT UP.’ (That’s rude..LOL)
Our mind is a wonderful and complicated organ. We think and reason and plan. Then, there are our thoughts and these present each of us with challenges. Our thoughts are like children and often need to be controlled. The ego, that little child within our thoughts can cause us problems if it is being negative, frightened, selfish and just plain whiney.
When we are ‘out of control’ we are not thinking and reasoning. We have shut off that part of our brain and the little child ego has taken over. Why are we out of control? There can be lots of reasons: our ego has been insulted by words or actions of another person, we recall our past hurts and hate and blame those in our past, we are in the middle of a heated argument and we feel that we are being attacked unjustly. When out of control, we are not at peace and it is often in those moments that we say and do things that we regret.
Eckhart Tolle has many books where he addresses this situation (far better than me) He has thought me to be ‘separate’ from my thoughts, watching them as if I was watching a child. I can, when I am separate from my thoughts, evaluate them.
I have a thought and I can say, “Ah, that’s a hurt of the past, do I need to dwell on it?
What good will it bring me? How do I feel when I have this thought. I feel hurt and hate – that’s not good.
Controlling or changing your thoughts is very empowering. We have all been hurt in the past, but we can ‘shut that door’ or keep it open and feel negative thoughts.
Live in the moment – the past can only overpower you if you give it power.
Try and squash and change negative thoughts….you have a right to be happy
