An estimated 85,000 people joined in the celebrations which took place in the capital city, Seoul, making it the biggest Pride parade to be held in the city yet.
On July 15, 2017, despite the rain, people from the LGBT community joined in the parade.
The event has steadily grown in popularity since it was first held in 2000.
It’s believed that there were 50,000 attendees last year.
Ralliers were met with protests staged by a few thousand conservative Christians.
We Will Not Hide in the Closet
Pastor Hong Ho-soo, the secretary general of the Homosexuality Countermeasure Council for Korean Churches said: “We do not want them to showcase homosexuality in public, which can corrupt the minds of our children.”
He added that he felt it was fine for LGBT people to “celebrate whatever you are at home” but just “not in front of others”.
Pastor Ho-Soo Children Know that they are Gay!
It is evil and unjust to not support children who know that they are gay. I was about ten years of age when I noticed that I like girls more than boys. Back then, I didn’t have a word for it. Today, we have incredible role models that are instrumental in saving gay teens from suicide. You cannot ‘catch’ homosexuality as a kid. The best Christian asset would be for kids to be tolerant and understanding of their fellow gay classmates.
I notice the banner, “Homosexuality is a Sin,” well that is certainly in Leviticus, but so is eating shell fish, pork and dressing the body in two fabrics. I would also add that not loving your neighbour is a sin. Jesus picked the most outcast (a Samaritan) and placed him above the two religious leaders that walked by the injured man.
World Psychiatric Association
Well done, South Korea. It should be acknowledge that in March 2016, the World Psychiatric Association, consisting of over 250,000 psychiatrists in 118 countries wrote to the United Nations and World Leaders. They stated that since homosexuality cannot be reversed, it is NOT a choice. Why do so man religious people have to be so ignorant and backward
