JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) – Missouri lawmakers have overridden a veto of a wide-ranging guns bill that will let more people carry concealed weapons and give them greater legal rights to defend themselves.
The Republican-led Legislature enacted the law Wednesday by a 24-6 Senate vote and a 112-41 vote in the House. Both exceeded the two-thirds majority needed to override the veto of Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon.
The legislation will allow most people to carry concealed guns without needing a permit. That means they won’t have to go through the training currently required for permit holders. Missouri will join 10 other states with what supporters describe as a “constitutional carry” right.
The measure also expands legal protections for those who use deadly force to defend themselves in both public and private places.
The Right To Defend Oneself?
Welcome to the modern Wild West where everyone carried a gun – and Boot Hill cemetery was filled with the dead bodies of gun swingers. They, too, were defending themselves.
Shopping Mall/Plaza Scenario:
Two drug dealers are chasing one another through the crowds. One drug dealer fires at the other drug dealer. He misses and hits a shopping husband’s wife. He draws his gun but with little training he misses the drug dealer and kills a teenager. Both the teen’s parents draw their guns, but being black, some white people think they are the ‘drug dealers/criminals’ and fire on them. You get the point?
Arm Your Babysitter
Even babysitters have to clamour and compete for jobs. A qualified gun shooting teen will put this fact on his/her resume for a baby sitting job. In Texas, Missouri (and eight other states), there is those people who believe that a gun should be used on trespassers. An armed teen babysitter has to make decisions. What happens if a relative opens the door with a key?
So, it’s easy to get a gun in Missouri. Here are the requirements and training for others:
`16 hours training to sit on a school board.
48 hours to obtain a Master Naturalist Diploma that enables a person to plant trees
and know who to start and look after a butterfly garden.
