Trish and I are now three days in Australia having left a cold Canada behind us. The first thing I noticed was the sun shining and warmer temperatures. The second thing I noticed was that Donald Trump was on page 19 of the newspaper! The twelfth woman, Miss Finland” has just come forward with a claim that Presidential candidate did inappropriate and non-consensual touching! On the flight here, I watched a movie, “I Declare” about Anita Hill’s courageous case against Judge Thomas. She “lost,” and Thomas was elected to the Supreme Court. Now, yesterday, someone has come forward with charges against Judge Thomas.
Our Temporary Home
We are located on a three-story home overlooking the sea. This is a tourist region of Victoria state.
There are two greyhounds – Charlie (Alpha Male) and younger female called Pip.
There is a smaller greyhound -looking dog called a Whippet. Her name is Dash.
She was found by her new home owners abandoned in a field. She feels the cold and wears pink sleeping and lounging attire. The four dog is a spoodle (Spaniel-poodle) and her name is Bobbi. I often sing “Hey, Hey, Hey, Bobby McGee,” (Old Janis Joplin song).
Rise and Shine
These kids on four legs usually get walked around 6 a.m and that’s fine with me; I am a morning person. Trish is not a morning person, so she feeds the dogs in the late evening. They only get walked once a day. It is incredible to see greyhounds take off and run – I ‘run with them in my mind’ and I can just imagine the exhilaration it must be for these dogs. I am ‘breathless’ when they come charging towards me and swerve at the last-minute.
There are certain things that surprise and amuse me. There is a toaster here that has a button (let me look) and another button for “just a little more.”
Mornings in Oz
An orchestra starts when dawn breaks. There is twittering , chirping, cawing and high-pitched shrieks of parrots. Added to this morning symphony are colours that nestle in trees or do acrobatics from branches. Then, there are the flights of lorikeets – flying gems. A white cockatoo comes every evening and throughout the day are the background noise of cooing doves. Mother Nature likes to take care of her kids and trees have colourful feeding stations of buds, fruits and nuts.
Thinking about House/Pet Sitting?
There are various internet sites with accompanying fees. Here are a few: Trusted House Sitters, and Mind My House. You will need a police clearance, references and a portfolio that addresses your love of animals – pets you have had, etc. It is a wonderful life.
