Well, I wouldn’t say that Martina was totally instrumental in Kazakhstan retreating – it was more like money, money, money speaking, but she did stand up for the LGBTI in Kazakhstan!

Martina, the blond goddess and  other sports figures, wrote to the  International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach calling for Kazakhstan to be denied the Winter Olympics because of the following measures.  If passed, the law would be similar to Russia in the banning of pornography and information seen as promoting violence and “non-traditional” relationships.

The measure had been passed by both houses of parliament, but was rejected by the country’s Constitutional Council, Kazakh news agencies said Wednesday.

Sochi: A Reminder to the World Community

A similar law in Russia sparked wide criticism, especially before last year’s Olympics in the Russian city of Sochi. Yet, the FIFA world soccer has been awarded to two homophobic countries: Qatar and Russia.  If Kazakhstan’s proposed law is NOW deemed non- constitutional, surely Russia’s is too. paula.

The Bidding for the Winter Olympics:

Kazakhstan’s largest city, Almaty, is bidding for the 2022 Winter Games.   If granted the venue, could Kazakhstan over turn the constitution and return to undemocratic violation of human rights?
