London Pride marked its 45th event with marriage proposals and a smattering of hate.  It still is incredible that outdated religious rules – many going back to 3,500 years ago could raise their ugly heads.  But, let’s celebrate the pride and the love that was clearly visible and remember that is is a minority that cannot accept LGBT love.

I have always loved women in uniform.  They look strong, beautiful and sexy.  The pictures are from HannahEachus/Twitter) and they express the love and commitment each woman has for her partner.   Crowds cheered as a woman got down on one knee an dproposed to her police officer girlfriend.  The proposal was accepted to louder cheers of congratulation.

Sadiq Khan used Pride 2017 to send a message to President Trump.  He asked Trump to recognize the LGBTI community and the huge contribution it makes to places in the world.  We are doctors, surgeons, engineers, lawyers, inventors, scientists, lab workers and a will smile when we bring you your meal.  We work in transportation, aviation, the military and the police force.  We are everywhere. Khan said that he wanted to send a message to all Londoners and those visiting the capital.

“The key message I want to send out is that here in London you’re free to be who you want to be and you’re free to love who you want to love.”

One of the four male officers who proposed to his boyfriend received hate mail that included death threats.  This has to be expected when religion is place above human love.  They should be reminded that in March 2016, the World Psychiatric Association, a scientific body of over 250,000 psychiatrists from 181 nations wrote to the United Nations and world leaders.  They stated that homosexuality CANNOT be reversed and is, therefore, NOT a choice.  Religion has to grow and outmoded thinking has to be replaced with knowledge.

As a community, the LGBTI has come a long, long way, but we have to support those of our sisters and brothers in homophobic countries.  To everyone “Happy Pride.”
