Lianne Joan Sanderson (born 3 February 1988) is an English professional footballer or soccer player. When she was six years of age, Lianne played for a boys’ team in South London. Her father was a soccer player who played for Crystal Palace. When she turned 9 years old, Lianne signed to play for the soccer club Arsenal as part of their youth programme. She continued to play in the English League.
Lianne finished the 2006–07 season as Arsenal’s top–scorer, with 40 goals scored in 41 appearances across four competitions, all of which were won by Arsenal.
On the International Scene
Lianne made her debut appearance for England in May 2006 and played in the 2007 FIFA World Cup and the UEFA World’s Euro competition in 2009. Lilianne had problems with coach Hope Powell and refused to play until the situation changed in 2015 when she again was part of the 2015 FIFA World Cup squad.
Playing for Chelsea and Other Teams
Lianne joined Chelsea in 2008 after 11 years with Arsenal.
She has also played for the Chicago Red Stars and Philadelphia Indepence. In 2011, Liliane signed with Espanyol in the Spanish League and in 2012 was on Britain’s Olympic team.
Sanderson is openly gay. In 2014 she was engaged to then-teammate Joanna Lohman, but the two footballers later broke up
