Four legged animals DO NOT totally understand your language.  Yes, they do know certain words like: come, sit, down, fetch, but they do not understand conversations.  If they are listening and wag their tails, it is not because they know what you are saying, but because your words are gentle and friendly.

Getting Upset With Your Pet

Dogs want to please their families.  When they make mistakes it is mostly because of not understanding.  Getting mad at them just makes things worse.  Imagine that you do not know what you have done, and everyone is shouting at you or worst of all -hitting or kicking you.

Teach your Dog with Love.

All animals know the language of love because it is filled with kindness. Beating an animal or being unkind to it, just makes it very unhappy.  It wants to please you, but like any of us, animals make mistakes.  It is much better to show the animal what it has done wrong.  When he or she gets it right, reward it with a treat or pat it and say, “good dog.”  Show the dog often.  Like many of us, when something is difficult or hard to do, we need more time.

Little Things Matter

Since your four legged animal does not completely understand your language, you can use another KIND OF LANGUAGE.  Let your actions be the best language.  For example, pet your animal softly.  Don’t constantly keep petting it!  How would you like your face rubbed every minute? LOL.

Don’t Hurt Your Pet

Give some treats when your animal has been good – Don’t go for PERFECT.  Give your pet a nice ear scratch – gently now!  Animals are often smaller than us and have smaller bones.  Hitting or kicking an animal can hurt these small bones and they can be in pain for hours or days.  They cannot tell you how frightened or how much pain they suffer.

Animals have feelings, here is a sad picture of a camel with her dead baby.  She is calling out in pain.  She knows pain and suffering.  All animals do.  Make your animal happy!

Can You Walk a Neighbour’s Pet?

Is there an older person near you, who cannot walk his or her dog?  Of course, you need your parent’s permission and the permission of the dog’s owner.  If the owner refuses, don’t take it personally.  The dog may be the only friend that person has and they are frightened something might happen to it.

unknown-3unknown-2Puppies, Like Human Babies, Need Time to Learn

Puppies are doggie babies.   Does a human baby understand a lot of words?  Does a human baby know when it has done things wrong.  Most times they do not understand human language.  It is the same with puppies and dogs.  A baby has ‘accidents’ in his or her diaper/nappy – it is the same with puppies.

Don’t Have a Pet?

You can still be the friend of animals without having a pet.  If you are older, you might ask your parents for permission to volunteer at an animal shelter.  Sometimes, shelters need a home for a dog for just a short time.  If you see a kid being unkind to an animal, don’t yell, but talk to them about what you know: 1) animals don’t completely understand human language   2) animals learn quicker by kindness and being shown often.  3) animals want to please owners.   4) animals can hurt and be in pain if treated badly (we can take aspirin but an animal suffers without medicine.

Thank you, for being the best that you can be.04_kindtoanimals
