Irene Koki Mutungi
In 2014, Kenya Airways announced the first African Captain on the world’s latest aircraft, Boeing B787 Dreamliner and guess what, she was a woman! Irene Koki Mutungi became the first ever and only female pilot at KQ for six years before other female pilots joined the aviation bandwagon.
She was also the first female to fly the B767-300ER, the second largest plane in the Kenya Airways aircraft fleet after the B777-300ER as the First Officer.
She started her career in 1993.
