Braving death threats and acts of violence from certain members of the Islamic community, two brave former students from Pakistan are believed to have become the first Muslim lesbian couple to marry in a civil ceremony in Britain.
The marriage was reported in Pakistan which drew ire from extreme Islamists; homosexuality is illegal in Pakistan and not recognized in the Quran.
The couple told the registrar that they had met three years ago while they studied in Birmingham. They moved in together. Rehana Kausar, 34, and Sobia Kamar, 29, are seeking asylum in Britain. Rehana holds a master’s degree in economics from Punjab University.
We wish them every happiness. Love knows no boundaries.
