If the match between Canada and the USA in the London Olympics (2012) is an indicator of this fierce competition, you can expecxt that it will continue in the FIFA Women’s Cup in Canada in 2015.
There are many women on both teams to watch and cheer for, but I’m looking at two players, Canada’s Christine Sinclair and America’s Abby Wambach. The reason? Sinclair scored a hat-trick in the game, and Wambach scored on a penalty shot to tie the game. Wambach on that goal had scored five times.
Christine Sinclair’s Record
She is a professional player who has played for N.Y and Portland Women’s teams. In 2012, she received two prestigious awards:
Canada Soccer Player of the Year
Canadian Athlete of the Year
Here are some of her soccer achievements:
148 plus international goals
200 appearances for Canada and has won Cnada Soccer Player of the Year – 11 times.
She was instrumental in Canada winning the 2010 Women’s World Cup.
The Canadian Team did win a Bronze Olympic Medal in the London Games.
Like Christine, Abby plays as a forward.
She has scored 167 international goals (more than any male or female soccer player). (Christine has 148)
Wambach has played three World Cups in total. Her team finished third in 2003 and 2007, and second place in 2011.
She has three gold Olympic Medals.
She has won US Soccer Athlete of the Year six times.
The Associated Press named her Female Athlete of the Year in 2012.
Do they share anything in common: Probably many things, including being ‘rainbow sisters.’ Both are in relationships with women. paula.
