We of the LGBTI community are grateful for the support of may individuals of the movie, television and music industry with particular emphasis in the recent horrific homophobic law bills being passed in the southern United States.
Fulfilling their promise, last night Duran Duran interrupted their sold-out concert at Charlotte’s PNC Pavilion to denounce North Carolina’s HB2.
Standing before a giant electronic rainbow flag, lead singer Simon Le Bon drew roars from the audience when he expressed support for LGBT rights and then boos when he mentioned that HB2 makes it legal to fire someone for being gay.
Le Bon then introduced Equality North Carolina’s Matt Hirschy, who presented a petition to repeal HB2 to the band members, all of whom signed it.
NOTE: As a state, North Carolina did not previously protect LGBT residents from employment discrimination, but HB2 did repeal such protections in more than a dozen municipalities, including Charlotte.
