Jamaica, where televison crews rush to view mobs beating/killing gays but won’t accept paid ads that ask for tolerance/equal rights.

How much blame should be assigned to the  Jamaica’s extreme language of anti-gay conservative Christian leaders?

If Jamaican television stations hadn’t refused to air  pro-tolerance public-service announcements, would the level of anti-gay hatred be lower?

If preachers emphasized the importance of love as much as they decry homosexuality, would LGBT people in Jamaica be safer?

Here are the  Jamaican statistics and they speak for themselves

Anti-gay violence of July 22 to Aug. 22:

Other recent attacks in Jamaica have included:

Dwayne Jones in his casket

Dwayne Jones in his casket, murdered on July 22, 2013

1) The murder of 17-year-old cross-dresser Dwayne Jones at a public street-party in St. James (the Montego Bay area) on July 22.  Jones was attacked after a female party-goer complained that Jones was a man dressed as a woman.

2) A mob attack on a Kingston police officer suspected to be gay on Aug. 1. He had to be rescued by other officers firing shots in the air and firing teargas into the crowd.

3) A mob attack on the home of two gay persons in St. Catherine, also on Aug. 1. They too had to be rescued by police.

4) A mob attack on a cross-dresser in St. Catherine on Aug. 10. The police again had to rescue the individual.

5) A mob attack on five allegedly gay men, who were trapped in their house in Green Mountain on Aug. 22 until police arrived and escorted them to safety.

6) August 18, 2011, armed thugs barged into the small home that 16 year-old Oshane Gordon shared with mother and hacked him to death.  They hacked his mother, but she survived

When is enough, enough?  I think there is a case for bringing television stations to justice for not saving lives of majorities?

  1. First of all I would like to say terrific blog! I had a quick question which I’d like to ask if you don’t mind.
I was interested to find out how you center yourself and clear your thoughts prior to writing.
I’ve had trouble clearing my thoughts in getting
my ideas out. I do take pleasure in writing but it just seems like
the first 10 to 15 minutes are generally lost just trying to
figure out how to begin. Any suggestions or tips? Appreciate it!

    • Hello and thank you for your kind comments. Maybe subconsciously I centre myself and clear my mind but I don’t really go through any process. Advice often given by writers is “write what interests you and do it with passion.” My passion or goal for this site was to write for lesbians; give them a history of themselves, keep them up-to-date on world issues that relates to them, and enjoy the site. I am not an expert on how to write…there are books out there. Some state “just write” and ideas will follow – others state do a flow chart with ideas or words following from it. You could use the W5H system. There are 5 W and one H.
      Who..what …where …when…why….and how.
Who is the hero..who is my audience What is my topic…what do I want to get across to my audience..what is my goal…..Where do I set the story….Why am I writing this..Why do these things happen and how am I going to get my idea across (humour, serious writing…how will people respond).
I am not sure what type of writing you do…I have published a book on children’s stories..and that is another type of writing. Get back to me. You could also get out paper and brain storm things or people or topics that interest you. Good luck and I hope I have been helpful. paula P.S. Find good writers in your interest area and look at how they write.
