Say ‘hello’ and ‘congratulations’ to Rafaela Silva who won Brazil’s only gold medal in judo. She used the opportunity to come out as a lesbian and thereby honoring the love of her life, Rafaela revaled that she is in a three year relatinship with Thamara Cezar.
Rafaela won her medal in the 57k (125 pounds) category in women’s judo.
The couple have three dogs that they call their ‘kids’. She credits Thamara for being there as she trained for the Olympics.
When speaking to the media, Raphaela said:
‘She was there every day and knew how I was feeling, when I was sick when I wasn’t,’ Silva said. ‘Everything I needed, she was there to do it, so she is also very important in this victory’.
Silva is one of the record 48 openly LGBTI athletes in Rio.
