The marriage is believed to be the first female same-sex Hindu wedding to take place in Leicester, U.K. between  Miriam Jefferson and Kalavati Mistry.  It was a colourful ceremony as both wore traditional red and white Hindu wedding colours.

They also wore floral garlands and ‘mangala sutra’, which is a necklace traditionally tied around the bride’s neck to show she is now married.

Different Birth Places – One Love

Kalavati is from Leicester while Miriam is a native of Texas, U.S.A  Kalavati grew up in a traditional Hindu household.  She came out to her family and wanted an Hindu wedding.

Miriam met Kalvati in the year 2000 while when the English woman came to America for working purposes.

One Wedding is NOT Enough!

Miriam grew up in a Jewish household.  Earlier in 2017, both women had a Jewish wedding in San Antonio, Texas.  This is the home town of Miriam.

Love is the foundation of all religions, and both women have found this gift in their life together.  Congratulations.  paula.

On August 9, 2017, the GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders (GLAD) and the National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR) filed a lawsuit challenging Donald Trump’s proposed transgender military ban.

Lawyers filed Doe v. Trump in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia on behalf of five transgender service personnel.

The lawsuit has a team that between them has nearly 60 years of service in the Air Force, Coast Guard, and Army.  In an interview with the media,Shannon Minter, a transgender legal expert and NCLR Legal Director, stated: ‘Trump’s directive to exclude transgender people from military service has created a tidal wave of harms that have already been felt throughout our armed services. Transgender service members have been blindsided by this shift and are scrambling to deal with what it means for their futures and their families.’

Stop the Ban Before It Becomes Law

The lawsuit mentions a brief history of transgender persons who have served in the military starting with the War of Independence against Britain.

It further argues of the inconsistency of policy when President Trump can on his own bias overturn the June 2016 ruling of the Department of Defense.  In that ruling transgendered persons were allowed to serve their country openly.   Another argument is that Trump may have violated the Fifth Amendment that allows Equal Protection and Due Process for all American citizens.  Biased personal tweets by Trump have now become policy even though there are three branches of government and all must be in union.  Is this Trump’s idea of keeping his right-wing conservative Evangelical base.

.The Insult to Transgender Military Personnel

Jennifer Levi, Director of GLAD’s is on record as saying –“The Commander in Chief has said that transgender service members — people who have served our nation with honor and distinction — are no longer welcome to serve.” ‘This unjustifiable reversal of policy is devastating to these soldiers and harmful to our country.  These plaintiffs put their lives on the line every day for all of us. We can’t afford to lose a single one of them.’

Donald Trump’s rating have fallen well below that of any previous U.S president.  This is just one more “nail in his coffin.”
