Taiwan

Taiwan

Taipei March 15, 2017.

– A judgement against a lesbian who married a man because of pressure from her family has sparked criticism in Taiwan as the island moves closer to legalizing same-sex marriage.

The woman was recently ordered by a court to return around Tw$500,000 ($16,130) to her husband after she left him to return to her girlfriend, whom she had lived with for many years.

The Ruling

The ruling by the district court in northern Hsinchu said the money would compensate the groom for wedding fees, “betrothal money” and emotional pain that he suffered.

In Taiwan it is common for the groom to give money to the bride’s family as a goodwill gesture to seal the marriage deal.

As the case surfaced in local media this week, online commenters voiced their support for the woman as it emerged her family had opposed her relationship with her girlfriend and urged her to marry a man.

”Same-sex marriage should be legalised so people don’t have to marry someone they don’t love,” read one message on ETtoday website.

Others called the judgement a symptom of homophobia.

Television’s Opinions

”This kind of outcome is caused by anti-gay people,” said a post on the website of TV Channel EBC.

Taiwan’s same-sex marriage bill is due for a final reading this year and the island would become the first place in Asia to legalise it.

But the issue has caused a split in Taiwanese society, with protests for and against the bill as conservative critics say it would destroy family values.

Taiwan is considered progressive on many issues including gay rights, however its roots in Confucianism translate into a strong sense of adherence to traditional mores.  Family is the foundation of Confuciansim.

Past attempts to legalise same-sex marriage stalled under the Kuomintang party, which dominated politics for decades until it was unseated by President Tsai Ing-wen’s Democratic Progressive Party last year.

While she garnered online support, there was also criticism of the woman, identified only as Hsu.

Arguments for the Man Involved

”She should have insisted on not marrying the man instead of dragging him down with her,” said a comment on ETtoday.

Another on Apple Daily said the groom “must feel like he’s been fooled”.

According to the court judgement Hsu married her husband in January last year but left him a few days later.

It described how she had sent a message to an unidentified third party months before, saying she had a close relationship with a woman but her mother would not allow them to be together.

”She dated the plaintiff to ease her mother’s concerns,” the judgement said.

Apple Daily reported Wednesday she had revealed she was gay on her wedding night.

The pair had met on a blind date and both sets of parents had urged them to marry, the report said.

Janusz Korwin-Mikke, a EU politician from Poland has claimed that women are too “small and weak” to qualify for equal pay.   This dinosaur comment has resulted in him being suspended without pay from his job.

These remarks were made in the EU Parliament and again repeated on the television show “Good Morning Britain.”

Cave man talk, “Woman get back in cave.”

A Discliplinary Action

Korwin-Mikke will be suspended from parliamentary activities for 10 days, forfeit his politicians’ daily subsistence allowance for 30 days, and be banned from representing the legislature for a year, the parliament’s president Antonio Tajani said.

Mr Tajani said he “will not tolerate such behaviour” and added that “by offending all women, [Mr Korwin-Mikke] displayed contempt for our most fundamental values”.

It comes after the Polish MEP, who stands for election under a party name made from his own initials, slammed women’s rights to equal pay in a series of interviews.

He previously told the European Parliament that women should earn less than men, “because they are weaker, they are smaller, they are less intelligent, and they must earn less! That’s all”.

The comments drew gasps in the chamber, and another MEP,  a woman called Iratxe Garcia Perez, from Spain, told him: “Look, according to your theory, I should not have the right to be here, as a member of this parliament.”The Socialist Workers’ Party politician continued: “And I know it hurts you, I know it hurts and worries you, that today women can sit in this house and represent European citizens with the same rights as you.“I am here to defend all European women from men like you.”

Katy Perry

KATHY PERRY: ‘I KISSED A GIRL’ SONG

In March 2017, Katy Perry accepted Human Rights Campaign‘s National Equality Award with a great speech that outlined her right-win Pentecostal upbringing in the state California.  This is a fact that so many in the audience can relate to – how right wing Christians see so much ‘sin’ in everyone!

The HRC – Human Rights Campaign

This is one of the world’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer civil rights organizations.  Their goal is to continue to fight for equal basic rights for LGBTQ people.   At this gathering the HRC  praised Kathy for her positive influence in the lives of young LGBTQ and straight kids.

Growing Up Pentecostal

Kathy who is 32 years of age revealed that she was sent to Pentecostal youth groups that covered the topic of sex and sexual orientation.  It was difficult for her to look at Jesus and the Gospels and how Pentecostal counsellors tried to “pray sin away” in these areas.  Kathy admitted to the audience that she knew that sexuality wasn’t ‘black and white.”  Then, in 2008 she recorded, “I Kissed a Girl” (and I liked it).  She admitted that this song started a conversation around the world.  She admitted that many people would be surprised that she “prayed the gay away.” (I presume they were praying for the sins of others who were gay).

Using her Gift as a Singer

Kathy went on to tell her audience the the “gift’ of singing brought her to meet LGBTQ persons who were the complete opposite of the images she had been taught in Bible camp.

She said, “These people were nothing like I had been taught to fear. They were the most free, strong, kind and inclusive people I have ever met.”

I Did More than That!

“I’m just a singer-songwriter, honestly. I speak my truths and I paint my fantasies into bite-sized pop songs,” she said in her speech, bringing up her debut mega-hit “I Kissed A Girl.” As she revealed, the song is more than an ear-worm. “Truth be told, I did more than that.”

Cats and Kittens: Cute Images on Great Kid’s Website:   You might like to pass this on to a young person with my website

http://childrenandteensstoriestoinspireandmotivate.com

Cats are amazing animals.  If you see a group of cats, they are called aChowder, but if you see a group of kittens, you are watching a kindle.  You may name your cats, but a male cat is called a Tom and a female cat is called a Molly or a Queen.

How Long Do You Sleep?

You probably do not sleep as long as a cat.  They sleep between 16-18 hours a day.

How Heavy is your Cat?

Unless you own a lion or tiger, your cat weights around 4-5 kg or 8-11 lbs or pounds.  The heaviest cat on record weighed over 21 kilograms or over 46 lbs.

Famous People and Cats

The Emperor Napoleon and the Roman Julius Caesar were afraid of cats.  If a cat was afraid of a human, it could jump 7 times its own height to get away.

Tell Me About A Cat’s Body, Please.

  1. Cats have 24 whiskers and 203 bones.  b) a cat’s tongue is rough and has little hooks.  These hooks act like a comb so that pussycat can clean him or herself.  c) a cat can see 6 times better than you!   d) You have finger prints but a cat’s nose is a ‘finger print” or “nose print” that is unique.

Do you Have a Talking Cat?

Well, of course, a cat can’t speak in human words but it does have over 100 sounds.   Did you think it only said, “meeee-ow.”

Making Faces

Humans can make faces because they can move their jaws up and down and left and right     A cat can only move its jaw up and down.  Don’t ever try to move it side to side as you may break its jaw.

Loving Your Cats and Dogs (Any Pets)

Throwing stones or beating any animal can cause terrible and long lasting pain.  When humans get hurt, they can take an aspirin or go to the doctor or hospital for pain medication.   A wild animal or bird cannot do this.  If a stone injures its eye or body, it will be in pain for hours and may even die. If it dies, it then cannot feed its young.  Be a friend to all living creatures – and don’t let anyone else hurt them.   Thank you.

This site is dedicated to ALL WOMEN – young and old and in between.    This article will inspire all who read it.   We are raising a generation of young girls like Katie Francis.   Hopefully, the majority of these girls will be open-minded and accepting of people regardless of their race, religion, gender and sexual orientation.    This article appears on my children’s site.  Please promote it if you can.   There are really great books that I have written over the past twenty year.                     http://childrenandteensstoriestoinspireandmotivate.com

No.1 Girl Scout of Cookies Sales – How Many Did She Sell?

Fifteen year old Girl Scout, Katie Francis lives in Oklahoma City, USA.   Girl Scouts are called Girl Guides in other countries.  I was one, maybe, you are in Guides or Scouts, Brownies or Cubs?

Imagine How Many Boxes She Sold

Katie Francis has been in the organisation for seven years.  She smashed all recent cookie sales (biscuits) by reaching 100,100 bones.

How Does She Do It?

Katie has told everyone that she has three rules:

  1. “Time” – You need to devote as much time as you can.
  2. “Commitment:” – You have to want to do it.
  3. “Ask Everyone.:” – Don’t get shy if a few people have refused.  Keep asking.

Use every hour of the day
Cookie season usually only goes on for a few short months each spring. That means there’s no time to lose, says Katie.
“I go out selling cookies until I get home at night. And on Saturdays I sell all day long. I take every single hour that I can to go sell,” she says.
Do A Good Set Up
“I make sure that I have all my signs ready. I have a few that I put up on my cookie booth that advertise what we’re doing for that year — what my goal is, what my troupe is going to be doing,” she explains.

“Whenever there’s good weather a lot of girls are always out so the market gets kinda saturated, and other years it’s absolutely freezing and snowing, and not many people want to stop at a booth to buy,” Katie notes.  But, she knows that if she is there in bad weather, people like her commitment.

)It’s not a contest – be kind to other cookie sellers
Besides, she notes, “one of the last lines of our Girl Scout law is ‘be a sister to every Girl Scout,’ and everyone always follows that. It’s really amazing.”

 Sing and Dance
When sales are slow, she explains, “I like to sing and dance to help attract customers’ attention.”
“I’ve sung songs to Christmas tunes, Girl Scout songs and popular songs. ‘Do You Want to Build a Snowman’ is a real popular one,” she observes, citing the tune from Disney’s “Frozen” movie.
Even if you are not a Scout or Girl Guide, you can learn from Katie Francis.
She does not give up.    She thinks of others because the sales helps other
Scouts and Guides.   Be the best that you can be.

There are still cultural taboos that involve a ‘family’s honour.’  If an individual disgraces a family, the ‘old ways’ come into play: a money offering, some form of compromise – and – at the extreme end – death to the perpetrator.  The  payments depends on how damaging the incident is in terms of a private matter or public knowledge.  The latter can demand huge sums or death!

There is help:  In Britain, contact the Forced Marriage Unit

The British  government’s Forced Marriage Unit (FMU) has received hundreds of calls from young gay men and women – mainly men – who fear they are going to be forced into marriage by their family, against their will.

In 2010, the FMU has dealt with 29 confirmed cases of forced marriage involving gay men and women. The following year, 2011,  the unit offered support and advice to nearly 1,700 cases in total.  One victim who had kissed a girl at the age of 12 years knew that she was a lesbian.  When she came out to her parents, they still forced her into a marriage with a man.

To aid the process, a gun, a knife, and pills are often left in the room, along with a can of petrol and a box of matches.  Even exorcism is tried and with a religious group around the victim, it takes will power to know that you are NOT possessed by evil spirits.

Taking Victims Out of the Country

One trick that families have been using is a holiday in their country of origin.  The victim is shown the return ticket.  Once in the foreign country, girls can be kidnapped or taken to remote areas and dumped on a relative.  She is given the choice – marry a citizen of this country and then you can both return to Great Britain.  Otherwise, we will put you to work right here in the village.  The local police are often bribed should the girl seek help.

A couple of girls who were in this situation, were able to contact friends back in Britain via the internet. With help, they contacted the Albert Kennedy Trust, a charity which helps vulnerable LGBT teenagers seek refuge.

Before leaving the country, young women and women, need to provide details of their parent’s names, the British address, and the date on the ticket that states their return.  This should be given to several confidents: teacher, employer, local clergy person, the local LGBT community – the more people that are informed the better chances for a possible victim.

Forced Marriage Unit signs

My suggestions:  I am not living in Great Britain, but the airports should be plastered with big billboards/signs/posters that state it is a crime to leave a child in a foreign country without letting the local British police be aware of the situation.  And a heavy fine/jail for abandoned and forced marriages of their children.

Schools need to leave pamphlets available for young people in libraries.  Public libraries need to have these pamphlets, too.   Local clergy need to speak out about forced marriages – stating this is not the way of their specific religion.

Airlines:  If the airline finds that the family does not include a young family member, then they should not board and the British Embassy should be involved.

Here is more from a Canadian government source, but it is applicable

While abroad you can email for help at sos@international.gc.ca or call the Emergency Operations Centre if in North America at 1-800-267-6788 or call collect from anywhere in the world at 1-613-996-8885.

In the USA  if you are facing or fleeing a forced marriage, or know someone who is, please visit preventforcedmarriage.orgto get help.

preferably before you leave:

  • your contact information abroad, including the address where you will be staying and the names of those with whom you will be staying, as well as their relationship to you
  • a photocopy of your passport photo page and birth certificate
  • a recent photograph of yourself
  • your itinerary, there and back (anticipated travel details, flight information, return date) and names of people travelling with you
  • try to bring a mobile device where you can contact your Embassy or friends back home.

-write a letter back home even if you don’t have have a stamp.

-write a letter to a friend, school, police with a fax number and try to ask for a business or hotel to send it.  You will have to pay for the fax.

This is solely my suggestion:   If on the plane, you have been told that you will be married in the country’s destination.  When going through customs – yell, that you have a bomb or a gun.   The customs will have to act – and when in police custody, you can explain your case.  If your parents state that you are mentally unwell, give the name of your family doctor to prove otherwise.

Paula here.   Let’s face it, you or I could not park our car outside of Trump Tower.  There are security guards and police armed with automatic machine guns.  That orange bus, even though it has hateful transgender slogans, could be a terrorist bus in disguise!   Yet, Trump’s people and national security, allowed it to park.   It had Trump’s approval!  Now, Americans can claim “free speech” as part of their Constitution, but Trump could have denied the bus parking space.  He could have distanced himself – that is HIS Constitutional Right!

The NON – Jesus Bus

Instead of a bus with social slogans – peaceful slogans, this bus was bought and funded by Christians who hate their neighbour.

Wow, imagine if this bus had peace signs:  “Americans chose love over Hate.”      “Americans Care for the Poor.”   “Americans Equality and Justice for ALL.”

The Hate Bus

Their slogans – “Boys will always be  boys!”   “Girls will always be girls!”      Anyone with just ONE brain would know that this is not true – medically and scientifically.  But these same people will ignore the March 2016 declaration to the UN and world leaders written by the World Psychiatric Association.   This scientific body, composed of 182 countries, declared that since homosexuality cannot be reversed, it is therefore NOT A CHOICE.

Where are the priorities of these right-wing Christians.   Firstly, in my opinion, they are NOT Christians.   Jesus even chastised or warned his disciples to see him in EVERYONE.    He tells his disciples that they did not see him.   And when they are shocked, he replies that he was in the hungry, poor, prisoner, widow, orphan and the lonely and downtrodden.   He even used a Samaritan in the Parable of the Good Samaritan to show the HERO was an “unclean” outcast in Jewish society.  Now, that approximately  20 million will be taken off Medicare and have no health insurance – why are there not buses protesting this by “Christians.:”?

Good Samaritan – the outcast who loved more than the Jewish priests who walked by the man attacked by robbers

Jesus never dealt with the issue of transgender.   There are so many cases of children “knowing” at a very early age that their genitals do not fit who they are in their mind.   All I can conclude with is the shortest sentence in the Bible, “Jesus wept.:

Beauty And The Beast Smashes the US Box Office to set weekend record

Disney Company ignores criticism from ultra right-wing Christians and Muslims.  In the first weekend run, it now claims to the the seventh biggest opening of all time!    Way to go – Disney!  There are more people in this world that acknowledge that sexual orientation includes – heterosexual, homosexual and transpersons.

The Money Rolls in

New live-action Disney movie Beauty and the Beast has set a box office record on its opening weekend. The movie, which opened in most global territories on Friday, took $170million (€158million) at the US box office alone – a record amount for a March opening.  Usually huge figures are associated with summer months or Christmas viewing.

Previous Records

The previous March record was held by Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which took $166million in its opening weekend last year.

Beauty’s opening even beats the final instalment of the final Harry Potter movie, which took $169million in its opening weekend in 2011 (both it and Beauty star British actress Emma Watson)

The success of Beauty and the Beast comes despite mixed lukewarm reviews (70% on Rotten Tomatoes) and controversy over the inclusion of a gay character.

Kudos to Director of the Film

Le Fou

Director Bill Condon has described the decision to show Gaston’s personal manservant, LeFou (played Josh Gad) as having a crush on his villainous boss as ‘subtle’. Some Christian groups in the USA were upset and foreign distributors were cautious.

In Russia, the film recieved an adult rating according to some sources, but others have hinted that it will be banned.

The film is not being released in Malaysia after the government there demanded that scenes alluding to the LeFou’s sexuality be cut.

Disney refused and said it would not release the film in the country in censored form.  Chinese showing was strong without the film being uncensored.

.

Beauty and the Beast Number One Around the
World

Outside the US, the film took $180million (€167million) from 44 markets (racking up a cumulative gross of $350million/€325million).

It opened at number one in every market except Turkey, Vietnam and India. Outside the US, its biggest opening was the UK, where it took $22.8million.

In the US, the film’s appeal cut across all demographic groups, with 22% of the audience being children under 12.

For LGBT kids, this film will be important.

For Girls: Air India’s All Female Flight Crew

International Women’s Day is held every year on March 8th.  This happens because girls and women do not have the same rights and opportunities in many countries.  You may be aware that Malala, a Pakistani girl, was shot in the head just for going to school.

                          Malala

Air India and an All-Women Crew

On March 5, 2017, Air India decided to do something very special for International Women’s Day.  A plane was flown from India to California and back to India by four female pilots and a crew of all women.  In fact, this plane flew around the world.  Here are the four women pilots:

The four female pilots of the huge plane

This Was Not a Small Plane

This is one of the biggest planes in the world.  It had to show that women pilots could do the job.  In fact, everything about the flight was operated by women.  There were:

1) Women Engineers that checked the engines

2). Women who fuelled the plane

3) Women traffic controllers around the world who made sure the plane took off and landed at various places

The Long Flight that Went Around the World.

When you look at a flat map – you can see the flight that started in India and flew to California.    But, in reality, pilots take a global route that looks like this….flights are often over the north pole.

This is NOT a Competition Between Females and Males

If you are a boy reading this, try and understand that it is not a competition.  Girls and boys are equal – both have good brains, but unfortunately, in many parts of the world – boys get better education and better chances to do things.  This all female flight was to encourage girls around the world to fulfill their dreams.  Like boys, girls can go to school and become doctors, lawyers, scientists, pilots, engineers, inventors, writers, sports stars.

And to the girls – hope you enjoyed this article.  And dream – and study and become who you want to be NOW and in the future.

UnknownUnknownFirst of all, let me wish you a Happy St. Patrick’s Day for March 17th.  Depending on which side of the International Date Line that you live, you either wore green yesterday or you are wearing it today.  If you don’t wear green – shame on you! LOL.  There are three patron saints of Ireland, St. Patrick, St. Brigid and St. Columba.

St. Patrick (short version)

Saint Patrick was a 5th-century Romano-British Christian missionary and bishop in Ireland. Known as the “Apostle of Ireland. The exact location of his birth is unknown, but he was born around 387 AD in the United Kingdom of Great Britain.  His given name was Maewyn Succat and speculation has it that he was born in Wales.  He was a Roman.  He brought Christianity to Ireland.  To explain the mystery of the Trinity (God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit), Patrick used a shamrock.  There were three leaves, but one plant and he equated this to the Trinity.  It is said that he drove the snakes out of Ireland. (There are no snakes in Ireland).  He loved the Irish and died in Ireland.  The wearing of the green is symbolic of the shamrock.  Whether he drank green beer is another matter!

St. Brigid

Brigid was a faithful companion to Patrick.  She is an equally powerful saint, but since Christianity has been dominated by males, she often takes second place.  Early Irish Christianity welcomed Brigid and she became powerful in her own right. She taught and became a bishop and ordained priests.  When the Vatican became involved, women could not longer become priests in Ireland.  Now, I’m interested in Brigid for two reasons: one she was a powerful and spiritual woman and secondly, she slept in the same bed with her female companion (and lover) Darlughdach.

Brigid and Darlughdach 640 px by Lewgalon EtcThe following information has been taken from JESUS IN LOVE BLOG.  I have not altered a word.

Saint Brigid and her soulmate Darlughdach were sixth-century Irish nuns who brought art, education and spirituality to early medieval Ireland. Brigid (c.451-525) shares her name and feast day (Feb. 1) with a Celtic goddess — and she may have been the last high priestess of the goddess Brigid.

Raised by Druids, Brigid seems to have made a smooth transition from being a pagan priestess to a Christian abbess. Today she is Ireland’s most famous female saint. Her name is also spelled Bridget.  Legend says that when she made her final vows as a nun, the bishop in charge was so overcome by the Holy Spirit that he administered the rite for ordaining a (male) bishop instead.

A younger nun named Darlughdach served as Brigid’s ambassador and her “anam cara” or soul friend. The two women were so close that they slept in the same bed. Like many Celtic saints, Brigid believed that each person needs a soul friend to discover together that God speaks most powerfully in the seemingly mundane details of shared daily life. The love between these two women speaks to today’s lesbians and their allies. Some say that Brigid and Darlughdach are lesbian saints.

Brigid started convents all over Ireland and became the abbess of the “double monastery” (housing both men and women) at Kildare. Built on land that was previously sacred to her divine namesake, the monastery included an art school for creating illuminated manuscripts.

After Brigid turned 70, she warned Darlughdach that she expected to die soon. Her younger soulmate begged to die at the same time. Brigid wanted her to live another year so she could succeed her as abbess. Brigid died of natural causes on Feb. 1, 525. The bond between the women was so close that Darlughdach followed her soulmate in death exactly one year later on Feb. 1, 526.

Both Christians and pagans celebrate St. Brigid’s Day on Feb. 1. It is also known as Imbolc, a spring festival when the goddess Brigid returns as the bride of spring in a role similar to the Greek Persephone. People still celebrate her day by weaving twigs into a square “Brigid’s Cross,” an ancient solar symbol traditionally made to welcome spring.

Brigid’s main symbol was fire, representing wisdom, poetry, healing and metallurgy. The nuns at the Kildare monastery kept a perpetual fire burning in Brigid’s memory for more than a thousand years — until 1540 when it was extinguished in Henry VIII’s Dissolution of the Monasteries.

The Order of St. Brigid was reestablished in 1807. Two Brigidine sisters returned to Kildare and relit the fire in the market square for the first time in more than 400 years on Feb. 1, 1993. The perpetual flame is now kept at the Solas Bhride (Brigid’s Light) Celtic Spirituality Center that they founded there. In addition, anyone may sign up to tend St. Brigid’s flame in their own homes through the Ord Brighideach Order of Flame Keepers.

Two Celtic Christian artists based in Germany collaborated on the sensuously spiritual portrait of Brigid and Darlughdach at the top of this post. On the left is Darlughdach, painted as a fiery redhead by Rowan Lewgalon, and on the right is fair-haired Brighid, painted by Tricia Danby. Lewgalon and Danby are both clerics in the Old Catholic Apostolic Church as well as spiritual artists whose work is online at tir-anam.weebly.com.

By Brother Robert Lentz, OFM. © 1999

Brigid and Darlughdach are shown with their arms around each other in the above icon by Brother Robert Lentz. He is a Franciscan friar and world-class iconographer known for his progressive icons. The two women are dressed in the white gowns worn by Druid priestesses and Celtic nuns. Flames burn above them and on the mandala of Christ that they carry. It is one of 40 icons featured in his book Christ in the Margins.

The icon was commissioned by the Living Circle, a Chicago-based interfaith spirituality center for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) community and their friends. Four Living Circle members took the original icon to Kildare with them in 2000 for the flame-lighting ceremony at the recently excavated site of Brigid’s ancient fire temple.

Dennis O’Neill, the priest who founded the Living Circle, includes the icon and an in-depth biography of Brigid and Darlughdach in his book “Passionate Holiness: Marginalized Christian Devotions for Distinctive People.”

Brigid’s spirit of fun and hospitality is expressed in her reputation for loving beer. She made beer for the poor every Easter. In a well known poem attributed to Brigid, she envisioned heaven as a great lake of beer. Here are some of the words to St. Brigid’s Prayer, as translated and performed by Irish singer Noirin Ni Riain:

I’d sit with the men, the women of God
There by the lake of beer
We’d be drinking good health forever
And every drop would be a prayer.

Rosie O’Donnell and Trump have been feuding.  He called her ‘a pig.’  This was a very gentleman expression.  However, when interviewed some years ago, he was asked if he respected women.  Donald replied, “I can’t say I do.”

Rosie Speaks

‘This is not Russia,’ O’Donnell  said in a rally near The White House.  The rally was  billed as A Resistance Address: Defending American Values in a Time of Moral Crisis.

‘To Donald Trump and his pathetic band of white, privileged criminal businessmen, I would like to say to him, “nyet, sir.”‘

Rosie traveled from her home in New York City to Washington DC to deliver her thoughts personally.

The actress and former talk show host called upon the media to more aggressively call Trump out when he says things that are not true.

‘He lies, he lies, he lies,’ she said. ‘And it’s about time they all started saying that, instead of, “It appears as if he hasn’t been speaking the truth.” Cut it down to the least common denominator like he does.’

Running for President

During the first Republican presidential debate in August 2015, moderator Megyn Kelly asked Trump about his various insults aimed at women over the years.

‘You’ve called women you don’t like fat pigs, dogs, slobs and disgusting animals,’ Kelly began before being interrupted by Trump who said: ‘Only Rosie O’Donnell.’

Said O’Donnell at the rally: ‘He has degraded and bullied women his entire life and career. This is America. It is not yours. It is not corporately owned. It is of the people, by the people, and for the people. And we the people will not stand for it.’

             Way to Go -Regan

A young golfer who is the first out lesbian Filipino golfer will join the professional ranks this year after facing years of bullying because of her sexuality. Regan de Guzman will play the coveted competition after playing well in the 2016 LGPA Qualifying Tournament.

The 25-year-old is the fourth woman from the Philippines full LPGA Tour and is doing so at a remarkably young age.

‘It hasn’t really hit me that I made it to the LPGA,’ de Guzman said in a video.

‘I realised I have to keep working hard, I have to work harder than before because this is the longer road.

‘Everything really inspires me, everyone does.’

De Guzman recently graduated from San Jose State University in California where she had a full golf scholarship.

In her rookie year De Guzman will play a number of tournaments in the United States over the coming months.

The Talented Lesbian

Not content with being a prodigious golfer, De Guzman plays guitar, piano, billiards and is a certified scuba diver.

When she was 14 she gave up a promising gymnastics career after she felt she was missing out on her childhood.

Her grandfather, dad and mom all used to play golf and she was curious about the sport.

‘I fell in love with it and told my mom that I wanted to play in America. She said it was expensive and that I’d need to get an athletic scholarship.

‘Getting that scholarship became my mission and I accomplished it.’

She would like to use her position to empower young golf players in the Philippines and around the world.

De Guzman faced years of bullying because of her sexuality and believes her story of overcoming discrimination will be an inspiration to other young women.

Straight men raping lesbians is rampant in South Africa and other countries.  This is the rape by a father on his daughter after she sought his help.  She was struggling with her “identity” which may have meant she was struggling with what would happen if she told this man.The father was found guilty of three charges of rape, nine of indecent assault, plus one act of indecency with a child during the 1980s and 90s.  He was sentenced to 21 years in jail.  He is 54 years of age.   These three rape charges occurred during the 1980s and 90s, but now in 2017 the man was found guilty of all these charges.

The court heard that the 54-year-old brute attacked his 16-year-old daughter, who he had groomed since the age of 11, after she told him she was “struggling with her identity.”  My interpretation is that this revelation insulted his male sex ego – as he had had sex with her older sister for years.

My First Reaction:

When handing down the ruling, Judge Andrew Lockhart said: ‘As a 16-year-old girl she realised she was gay and, struggling with her identity as many people do at that age, she decided to tell you.

‘You reacted by showing real and uncontrolled anger, and you decided to rape her to show her why it would be better to have sex with men than women.‘Her evidence made harrowing listening.‘That rape involved degradation and humiliation. The offence demonstrated your hostility towards her as a lesbian,’ Judge Lockhart said.

In order to protect the identity of the child, the father’s name is not public information.

Paula comments:

I was shocked to read a comment from a man living in India.  He could only respond with the fact that ‘you can’t call a woman gay’ and LOL.   This is my response to him.

Rape is for power. Rape comes from an insecure person who gains his power over a weaker opponent. This is the most inhuman way to treat another person. In wars, this is the way to humiliate your enemy by raping the old, women and children. It is violent and does terrible physical damage to the body of the victim. While the body may heal from this violation – the mind does not. The victim becomes afraid of the dark, noise and other men. It is very hard for a rape victim to have normal relationships with men again. In most cases, the woman also gets bruised, kicked and beaten up. This could happen to your wife, daughters, family members – be a man who protects and respects women. In private societies, gang rape against lesbians to change their sexuality is not unusual. It is the same primitive thinking that has men rape children because in their ignorance they believe that a child can cure Aids/HIV. I will give you a second chance to respond with deep regret for this woman.

And to Men………..

1. Don’t put drugs in women’s drinks.

2. When you see a woman walking by herself, leave her alone.

3. If you pull over to help a woman whose car has broken down, remember not to rape her.

4. If you are in an elevator and a women gets in, don’t rape her.

5. When you encounter a woman who is asleep, the safest course of action is to not rape her.

6. Never creep into a woman’s home through an unlocked door or window, or spring out at her from between parked cars, or rape her.

7. Remember, people go to the laundry room to do their laundry. Do not attempt to molest someone who is alone in a laundry room.

8. Use the Buddy System! If it is inconvenient for you to stop yourself from raping women, ask a trusted friend to accompany you at all times.

9. Carry a rape whistle. If you find that you are about to rape someone, blow the whistle until someone comes to stop you.

10. Dont forget: Honesty is the best policy. When asking a woman out on a date, don’t pretend that you are interested in her as a person; tell her straight up that you expect to be raping her later. If you don’t communicate your intentions, the woman may take it as a sign that you do not plan to rape her.

Every time Kelly Ann Conway speaks – I laugh.   I am not in the habit of laughing at people -but, the way that Kelly Ann lies is hilarious.  This is an Oxford graduate and lawyer.  In any other situation, she would look competent, but working for Trump – she looks stupid and incompetent.  Put another way, Kelly Ann thinks everyone is stupid enough to believe what comes out of her mouth.

Here are some cartoons.

Now that the bill has been passed in 2017, by  USA lawmakers, and signed into law by Trump,

Republicans in the majority – vote to allow the mentally insane to own guns

a person who is insane can buy a gun.  It should never have taken place.  Back in 2012 a woman with paranoid schizophrenia was sold a gun which she later turned on her father.  He died.  This story takes place in the state of Missouri in 2012.

                       Missouri in red

The 2012 Gun Death by an Insane Person

In 2012,  Janet Delana, the mother of a paranoid schizophrenic, phoned the police and the FBI trying to stop a gun store that had previously provided her daughter with a gun.  Colby,  daughter of the Delana couple,  had been in and out of mental hospitals.  Janet phoned the store manager and explained that the last time Colby had a gun she had tried to kill herself.  Her father had taken away the gun.  This phone call was about two hours before Colby walked in and purchased the gun. The seller stated he did not put the phone call to the person he sold the gun to.  The question is, wouldn’t you remember a mother pleading of you to not sell a gun and describing what her daughter looked like.  Janet said that the gun store made $60 profit from that sale.  She lost a husband of forty years.  Her daughter is in a mental institution.

Colby Sue Weathers was mentally ill, but she had never been identified as a threat to herself or others by a judge or ordered to an extended mental hospital stay — which meant she could pass the background check for her gun.

Growing Up With Guns

Colby grew up with a dad that cleaned guns on his porch.  His wife, Janet, enjoyed practise shooting when she was dating him. Delana does not want guns taken away from people.

How Did The Gun Possession Madness Start?
The NRA is a powerful lobby group with lots of money.  Each time a politician furthers their cause a cheque is sent.  This is public record.

On gun regulations, a partisan divide:

• The House and Senate voted largely along party lines in February 2017 to get rid of Obama administration regulations aimed at blocking mentally ill people from passing federal background checks for gun purchases. President Trump signed the measure, HJ Res 40, rescinding the rules on Feb. 28.

• The rules had required the Social Security Administration to share information with the FBI about those receiving federal disability payments because of a mental illness — and unable to manage their finances — to ensure that their names were flagged in firearms dealers’ routine background checks.

• The Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act provides unique legal protections for firearms manufacturers, distributors and retailers. Passed by Congress in 2005, the law bars most civil lawsuits seeking to hold the industry accountable after the products it sells are misused, including in mass shootings.

• Supporters of the law say it has prevented frivolous lawsuits and includes exceptions for knowingly illegal sales. Opponents say those exceptions are narrow. Efforts to change or repeal the law, including last year, have not gained traction in a Republican-controlled Congress.

Even if her daughter had previously been deemed a threat by a judge, Delana has learned, there was no guarantee a background check would have caught that exclusion. The federal background-check system that is used to prevent convicted felons from buying guns is missing scores of state health records that would also flag and disqualify those who are seriously mentally ill.

Regulations finalized late in the Obama administration, but overturned in February with President Trump’s signature, extended restrictions on gun purchases to people who receive a federal disability payment because of mental illness and also have that check sent to someone who manages their financial matters.

But, Delana also has learned, if the Obama regulations had been in place when Weathers bought her weapon, they would not have barred her purchase because she received and managed her own Social Security disability checks.

The gun store settled out of court for 2 million dollars – that way, nobody is to ‘blame.’  Really, tell that to Tex, the father who lies in the grave.

Paula here:  I started my research by finding 11 Inventions by women on the Huffington Post – then I found many more inventions on Fact Monster.   I added images for the Huffington report.

Here are just a few things you might not have known were invented by women: from http://www.huffingtonpost.com.au/entry/11-crucial-inventions-you-can-thank-women-for_us_56d51097e4b0bf0dab3349e0

1. Beer, Thanks to lots of women!

We don’t actually know the individual who first created beer, but according to research conducted by historian Jane Peyton, for thousands of years brewing beer was a woman’s domain. According a 2010 Telegraph piece: “Nearly 7,000 years ago in Mesopotamia and Sumeria, so important were [women’s] skills that they were the only ones allowed to brew the drink or run any taverns.”  Paula’s comments: Ironically, this area now forbids alcohol for Muslims.

2. The Square-Bottomed Paper BagMargaret Knight

Margaret Knight realized that paper bags without square bottoms weren’t all that useful, so she invented a machine to cut and attach flat bottoms to bags. Before she could patent the iron version of her machine, a man named Charles Annan stole her design, claiming that no woman could think of something so complex. Knight filed a lawsuit against him and proved that the prototype was in fact hers. She gained the patent in 1871.

3. Dishwasher, Josephine Cochrane

In 1886, socialite Josephine Cochrane was annoyed that her servants kept breaking her china. So, she invented the first workable dishwasher

4. The Fire Escape, Anna Connelly

The first outdoor fire escape with an external staircase was patented by Anna Connellyin 1897. In the 1900s, Connelly’s model would become part of many mandatory building safety codes across the United States.

5. Monopoly, Elizabeth Magie

Monopoly, originally called The Landlord’s Game, was invented by Elizabeth Magie in 1903. Magie was inspired to create The Landlord’s Game “to demonstrate the tragic effects of land-grabbing.”

6. Windshield Wiper, Mary Anderson

In 1903, Mary Anderson noticed drivers stopping to clear snow and ice off their windshields. She came up with the windshield wiper — an arm with a rubber blade that could be activated without getting out of your car. She applied for a patent in 1904, and it was issued in 1905.

7. Chocolate Chip Cookies, Ruth Wakefield

In 1930, Ruth Wakefield, who owned a lodge named the Toll House Inn, was making cookies for guests and realized that she was out of baker’s chocolate. She broke up pieces of a Nestle semi-sweet chocolate bar, thinking that the chocolate would mix in and melt during baking, but it didn’t.

8. The Solar Heated Home, Dr. Maria Telkes

Dr. Maria Telkes worked at MIT on the university’s Solar Energy Research Project. In the 1940s, she developed the first solar-heated home with architect Eleanor Raymond.

9. Computer Software, Grace Hopper

Dr Grace Murray Hopper, a computer scientist, invented COBOL, the first user-friendly business computer software program in the 1950s. In 1969, she was awarded the first ever Computer Science Man of the Year Award.

10. Kevlar, Stephanie Kwolek

Stephanie Kwolek’s research with chemical compounds for the DuPont Company led her to invent Kevlar — the material used in bulletproof vests — which was patented in 1966.

11. Stem Cell Isolation, Ann Tsukamoto

Ann Tsukamoto is one of two people who got a patent in 1991 for a process to isolate the human stem cell. Her work has led to advancements in comprehending the blood systems of cancer patients and could eventually lead to a cure.

8 Inventions By Women That Changed The World

Do you like beer? And fire escapes? Thank a woman.

commons.wikimedia.org / Via Hannah Jewell

1. The car heater

Magnus Manske via commons.wikimedia.org(8516891322).jpg

The first car heater, which directed air from over the engine to warm the chilly toes of aristocratic 19th-century motorists, was invented by Margaret A. Wilcox in 1893. She also invented a combined clothes and dish washer, which someone should please build immediately.

2. Monopoly

One of the most famous board games of all time, responsible for endless hours of wholesome family fun and/or devastating family arguments, was invented by Elizabeth Magie in 1904 under the original name The Landlord’s Game. Magie’s game was a critique of the injustices of unchecked capitalism, making it all the more ironic when her game was completely ripped off by Charles Darrow 30 years later, who sold it to Parker Brothers. The firm eventually tracked down Magie and paid her $500 for her troubles.

3. The fire escape

Derek Jensen

This device, so vital both to public safety and the smoking habits of urban hipsters, was invented in 1887 by Anna Connelly.

4. The life raft

One day in 1882, Maria Beasely looked out at the sea and said, “People should, like, stop dying in huge transportation disasters.” And then she invented life rafts. Beasely also invented a machine for making barrels, and it made her really fucking rich.

5. Residential solar heating

“Solar One”, the first solar-heated home.

commons.wikimedia.org

Physicist and solar-power pioneer Dr. Maria Telkes teamed up with an equally badass lady, the architect Eleanor Raymond, to build the first home entirely heated by solar power in 1947.

6. The medical syringe

Thinkstock

Oh, the wonders of modern medicine. In 1899, Letitia Geer invented a medical syringe that could be operated with only one hand. Remember her the next time your doctor injects you with only one hand.

7. The modern electric refrigerator

ThinkStock

Florence Parpart invented the modern electric refrigerator in 1914. In 1900, Parpart also received a patent for a vastly improved street-cleaning machine, which she marketed and sold to cities across America, because she was incredibly badass.

8. The ice cream maker

Thinkstock

Nancy Johnson invented the ice cream freezer in 1843, patenting a design which is still used to the current day, even after the advent of electric ice cream makers. Thank you, Nancy Johnson. Thank you.

9. The computer algorithm

Ada Lovelace, whose father was Lord Byron, was encouraged by her scientist mother from a young age to become a fucking champion of mathematics. Lovelace worked with Charles Babbage at the University of London on his plans for an “analytic engine” (i.e. old-timey computer) to develop ways to program the machine with mathematical algorithms, essentially making her “the first computer programmer”.

10. More telecommunications technology than you could shake a stick at

Janette Pellegrini / Getty

The theoretical physicist Dr Shirley Jackson was the first black woman to receive a Ph.D. from MIT, in 1973. While working at Bell Laboratories, she conducted breakthrough basic scientific research that enabled others to invent the portable fax, touch tone telephone, solar cells, fiber optic cables, and the technology behind caller ID and call waiting.

11. The dishwasher

Saving untold marriages over the last century and a half, the dishwasher was invented by Josephine Cochrane in 1887. She marketed her invention to hotel owners, scandalously going to meetings without a husband, brother, or father to escort her, and eventually opened her own factory.

12. Wireless transmissions technology

Hedy Lamarr’s invention of a secret communications system during World War II for radio-controlling torpedoes, employing “frequency hopping” technology, laid the technological foundations for everything from Wi-Fi to GPS. She also happened to be a world-famous film star.

13. CCTV

Marie Van Brittan Brown’s system for closed-circuit television security, patented in 1969, was intended to help people ensure their own security, as police were slow to respond to calls for help in her New York City neighbourhood. Her invention forms the basis for modern CCTV systems used for home security and police work today.

14. The paper bag as you know it

Margaret Knight received her patent for a machine that could produce square-bottomed bags in 1871, after a long legal battle with a fellow machinist, Charles Anan, who tried to steal her work by arguing that such a brilliant invention could not possibly have been invented by a girl. That gentleman has thankfully been forgotten by history. Also, when Knight was 12 years old, she invented a safety device for cotton mills which is still used today.

15. Central heating

Every time you feel grateful that you don’t have to run around your house in the winter, desperately adding fuel to each room’s individual fireplace to fight back the bitter, bitter cold, think of Alice Parker, who invented a system of gas-powered central heating in 1919. While her particular design was never built, it was the first time an inventor had conceived of using natural gas to heat a personal home, and inspired the central heating systems of the future.

16. Kevlar

AP Photo/Courtesy of DuPont

Thinkstock

The chemist Stephanie Kwolek invented the super-strong Kevlar fibre, used to make bulletproof vests. Kwolek’s invention is five times stronger than steel, and also has about 200 other uses.

17. Computer software

Dr Grace Murray Hopper, a rear admiral in the U.S. navy, was also a computer scientist who invented COBOL, “the first user-friendly business computer software program”. She was also the first person to use to term “bug” to describe a glitch in a computer system, after finding an actual moth causing trouble in her computer.

18. Beer

It’s a bit hard to see, but these ancient Sumerians are SO drunk right now.

Harriet Williams

Oh, what’s that, bro? You’re just enjoying a bottle of delicious, super-manly beer? Guess what! Beer is totally a girl’s drink. Beer historian Jane Peyton claims that ancient Mesopotamian women were the first to develop, sell, and even drink beer. While it may be hard to pin down exactly who, thousands of years ago, “invented” the beer we know and love today, it’s safe to say that ancient women all over the world were sure as hell fermenting something. So next time you raise a glass, make a toast to Ninkasi, the Sumerian goddess of brewing and beer!

Baby Elephant Gets Drink from Truck Drivers

Botswana in red on a map of Africa

Some truck drivers were making their way through Botswana when a baby elephant suddenly appeared out of the bushes by the side of the road. The drivers from AfriAg transport company in Johannesburg, South Africa stopped due to a downed bridge in their path when the animal showed up. The men immediately realized that the elephant was terribly thirsty. They let the baby animal drink out of one of their own bottles, and started scanning the horizon for the elephant’s mother and his herd. Unfortunately, he was all by himself…

The drivers put the animal into their truck, and, once the bridge was fixed, dropped him off at at the nearest sanctuary. “According to our information, the baby was taken to Botswana Elephant Sanctuary,” Paul Oxton, founder and director of Wild Heart Wildlife Foundation, told The Dodo Magazine.. “In our opinion Botswana as a whole has one of the most remarkable, ethical and compassionate wildlife conservation strategies in the world… Because of the efficacy of the nationwide strategy, we trust that this baby will get the very best treatment and care possible.”

In a quest to set a new world record, Air India has operated a flight around the world with an all-women crew ahead of International Women’s Day (March 8)

The flight which departed from here on February 27 for San Francisco, returned at the Indira Gandhi International airport today after flying across the globe.

The aircraft, a Boeing 777-200LR, flew over the Pacific last week on its journey to San Francisco, while the return flight flew over the Atlantic, encircling the globe, Air India said today.

An Air India spokesperson said the airline has already applied for a Guinness World Record and Limca Book of Records for this feat.

Air India is the first Indian carrier to operate on the Pacific route which has reduced the flying time by up to three hours.

Apart from the cockpit and cabin crew, check-in and ground handling staff, and engineers who certified the aircraft were all women, Air India said.

It added that the Air Traffic Controllers who cleared the departure and arrival of the aircraft were also women.

As part of the celebrations on International Women’s Day which is observed on March 8 every year, the flag carrier has also decided to operate similar flights on its domestic and other international routes.

Paula here:  While I can get photos of the four captains and names, I cannot guarantee that the name is under the correct woman.

I found more information:  The flight covered  9,500 milch and Gunjan Aggarwales (15,300 km).  The captains who shared the piloting were – not necessary in order of this photo: Captains Sunita Narula, Kshamta Bajpai, Indira Singh.  Leading the cabin crew were stewardesses Seema Baberwal and Nishrin Bandulwala.

Well done everyone.  Paula

A MAN raped his gay teenage daughter to “show her” that sex with men was better, a court in England has been told.

The father, 54, brutally attacked the 16-year-old girl after she confided in him that she was “struggling with her identity”, The Mirror reports.

The judge presiding over the case in the Warwick Crown Court told the defendant the victim’s evidence “made harrowing listening”.

“As a 16-year-old girl she realised she was gay and, struggling with her identity as many people do at that age, she decided to tell you,” he said.

“You reacted by showing real and uncontrolled anger, and you decided to rape her to show her why it would be better to have sex with men than women. Her evidence made harrowing listening.

“That rape involved degradation and humiliation. The offence demonstrated your hostility towards her as a lesbian.”

The judge hearing the case said the victim’s evidence “made harrowing listening”.

The father was also convicted of raping his other daughter during two decades of sexual abuse, The Mirror reports..

Judge Andrew Lockhart QC told the brute: “The court heard from both of these two women. They have both been severely psychologically damaged by your behaviour.

“Listening to (one of the victim’s) evidence of her feeling of guilt at leaving her sister to face you was the most harrowing of evidence.”

The judge ordered the rapist serve 21 years in jail after being found guilty of three rapes during the 1980s and 90s. He was also ordered to serve an additional five years in jail and to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Umbrella Revolution, Hong Kong 2015

In countries where there is bigotry and discrimination against minority groups, those countries will suffer economically, socially and spiritually.

This is the case with Hong Kong. Assistant Professor of Gender Studies, Dr. Suen Yiu-tung has conducted studies to prove the point.  Dr. Yiu-tung has stated that ‘sexual migration’ – the international relocation motivated, directly or indirectly by sexuality – is going to hurt Hong Kong.

Suen argued Hong Kong was risking losing some of its brightest population if it did not create protections against discrimination.

Umbrella Revolution of 2015 – Tent Cities

Paula here.  I just happened to be in Hong Kong during the “Umbrella Revolution.”  The protests, which involved ‘tent cities’ disrupted traffic in this bustling city.  May ‘tent cities’ had young LGBTI protestors.  Unlike the mainland, Hong Kong (under British rule) was a vibrant democracy.  It is hard to put a muzzle on people who have had freedom of speech and movement.   955 people were arrested, and 1,900 people filed complaints against the police. Protesters fought off violent thugs (who had appeared mysteriously at night, their faces covered), got faces full of pepper spray and lungs full of tear gas.

Over two months, they had adapted their lives to the realities of long-term protest — finishing homework in tents, working during the day and moving in and out of the camp with the rhythm of the metro trains. I was there at Christmas time and rejoiced to find religious leaders and congregations singing some Christian carols – with some words changed to reflect their solidarity with democracy.

University of Hong Kong Study

Dr. Seun Yui-tung

Prof. Suen conducted research in 2016, which revealied 39% of LGB people in Hong Kong had thought about leaving because of the lack anti-discrimination laws.

48% had considered leaving because same-sex marriage was not and 26% had considered leaving because of the difficulties facing same-sex partners who wanted children.

His survey also discovered that those who had considered emigrating were talented, young and well educated.

‘It means that Hong Kong may be driving a significant proportion of the young and well-educated LGB workforce away because of the government’s failure to provide legal protection and recognition for them,’ Suen wrote

‘The phrase “brain drain” rings a bell.

‘The way Hong Kong tackles issue of rights for same-sex couples will test its claim to be Asia’s World City

‘If these LGB people do indeed emigrate from Hong Kong, there will be negative consequences for the city.

‘Social scientists, city planners and policymakers have extended the argument that diversity and creativity are basic drivers of innovation and regional and national growth.’

Same-sex relationships are not recognized in Hong Kong. Same-sex marriages from overseas are also not recognized.

Suen hoped Hong Kong’s Chief Exceutive John Tsang Chun-wah’s plan to encourage people to stay would also involve creating a more more inclusive place for LGB people.

After dogs and cats, budgies are the next favourite pet.  They are sweet and gentle.  As a kid, I always had a couple.  I did not want one as I felt it would get lonely.  My budgie called Joey was a good speaker.

The  budgerigar or budgie is a member of the parakeet family.  They live in the driest parts of Australia.  Did you know that they are naturally green and yellow, but breeding has given them many colours?

The first budgies were recorded in 1805, but the originial people of Australia (Aborigines) had known about them for many years.

Size and Weight

Wild budgies are around 18 cm (7 in) long and weight 30-40 grams (1.-1.4 oz).

Have You Noticed blue-violet cheek patches and a series of black spots across each side of their throat?

Is it a Male or a Female?

Blue across the top of a beak indicates male

                   male and female

Flaking brown across the top of the beak  indicates a female.

If the budgie is six months or older, it is easy to tell its sex. Look at the colours on the top of his beak.  If the colour is blue, it is a male. If the colour is brown, it is a female.

Dating

                   Kissy, Kissy

When humans go on a date, they dress in nice clothes.  Budgies have an ultraviolet spectrum that brightens their feathers.  Budgies show that they are in love by chewing seeds and putting this meal in their partner’s mouth.  Female birds can lay up to eight eggs.  Eggs take about 18–20 days before they start hatching. The hatchlings – blind, naked, unable to lift their head, and totally helpless, and their mother feeds them and keeps them warm constantly. Around 10 days of age, the chicks’ eyes will open, and they will start to develop  feathers that are down.  Where Do Budgies Live in the Wild?

The blue shows where budgies live in the wild

Budgies are rarely seen in cities.  They love wide open space especially where humans are not living.  They live in the Australian scrublands,* open woodlands and grasslands. (Scrublands have little grass ).  They are nomadic, which means that they don’t necessarily live in just one place.  They move on.

Budgies are friendly and love to live in small flocks, but sometimes they will join other flocks and the sky is filled with these beautiful birds.   Budgies, like most animals and birds, like to live where there is food and water.  If food or water runs out, budgies will come closer to places where people live.

What Do Budgies Eat?

In the wild, Budgies eat the seeds of the spinifex plant, grass seeds and sometimes wheat that is ripe.  Budgies that are owned by humans are twice the size of wild budgies.

How Did They Get Their Name?

Some people think the word ‘budgerigar’ came from the aboroginal word “gid-jirr-i-gaa meaning “good.”  Other people think it is two aboriginal words “budgery” meaning “good” and “gar” meaning cockatoo.

Keeping a Budgie as a Pet

Water and good should be changed every day.  The floor of the cage should also be changed regularly.  This will keep the budgie healthy.   Budgies love to play and they should have a mirror, play things and lots of attention from people.   Keep the music low and don’t speak too loud near them.  They have little ears.   Speak the same words in a gentle manner.  Have two birds as budgies like to live in flocks and need company.  Give them cuttlebone as a good mineral and to sharpen their beaks.  They will like to play at sharpening their beaks.

How Long Do Budgies Live?

Budgies on average live to be eight years old.  However, some live for 12-15 years.

Perhaps, good food, clean water and playthings help a bird to be happy and that might increase his or her life.

“Poussey Washington” Engaged: Samira Wiley & Lauren Morelli

Read Out Magazine http://www.out.com/love-issue/2016/12/29/love-portfolio-samira-wiley-lauren-morelli.  This is their love story.

Orange is the New Black actress Samira Wiley is engaged to her girlfriend, Lauren Morelli who is one of the show’s writers.

The couple, who have been dating for more than two years and the annoucement in February 2017 has been cause for much celebration.

Samira Wiley

Samira Wiley was born on April 15, 1987 in Washington, D.C

We know her as the enchanting “Poussey Washington” in Orange is the New Black blockbuster series.  She attended The Juillard School of Performing Arts in New York City.  Her interest was in theatre.  In 2011, she played Maria in a production of Love’s Labour’s Lost by The Public Theater

Samira Wiley has two siblings: Aiyana Kai Ma’at and Joshua Wiley.

Samira was raised in a Christian household.

Her parents, Christine and Dennis W. Wiley, are the co-pastors of Covenant Baptist United Church of Christ.  In my opinion, her parents are ‘true Christians.’  They have been praised as “pillars of the LGBT religious community.”  Their church, Covenant Baptist Church, was the ONLY Baptist church in Washington, D.C that performed same-sex UNIONS as far back as 2007.

Thank Heavens for Friends

Samira seems to have got the role of Poussey thanks to a friend from Juillard, named Marco Ramiez, who was a writer for the show.  Samira also discovered that another friend from Julliard was Danielle Brooks.

Danielle Brooks

Danielle was playing Tasha “Taystee” Jefferson on the series.  Samaria asked Danielle to help her rehearse for an audition – which she got. Yes! LOL.

What is also interesting is that Danielle Brooks also came from a similar Christian family, where her mother was a minister and her father was a deacon!

The Role Grows and So Does Fan Base

Samaria appeared in all twelve episodes of Season 1.  As her character became darker and more violent,  the “Poussey” character developed a large fan base.  Samaria’s success has made her a prominent actress in Season 3 & 4.

Lauren Morelli: Happy Fiancée

Morelli, originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is a graduate of Winchester Thurston School. Early in her education, she studied dance at Marymount Manhattan College in New York, until a back injury ended her career in dance.[1]

Lauren is a talented writer – that had us glued to OITNB.  She wrote the 12th episode of Season 4 which featured Samaria’s character.  She grew up in Pittsburg, Pennyslavia.  She studied dance at Marymount Manhattan College, New York, until a back injury ended her career.  It seems that Lauren had other talents. In college she was inspired by a professor to pursue a career in writing.

It was in 2013 that Lauren got her break with Orange is the New Black.  She was appointed ‘lead writer’ for two episodes of the First Season.  She has stated that she fell in love with Samaria, but being married, her relationship with Samaria was platonic.  Samaria was a friend who helped her through her realization that she felt a love for women.  The follow year (2014), Lauren filed for divorce from her husband of two years.  On October 4, 2016, Lauren announced her engagement to Samaria.
Out Magazine has a great article on their relationship.

The Equally Talented Lauren

Lauren was nominated for the 2014 Online Film and Television Association’s award for “Best Writing in a Comedy Series,”.  In 2014 and in 2015 Lauren was nominated by the Writers Guild of America for “Best Comedy Series,”

Here are some of the awards from Wikipedia
